Q: Do I have to have attained all the lower levels before I can assess my school
at a higher level?
A: No. However, each level describes an increasingly sophisticated use of data within
a business process, so it is unlikely this would arise. It may be that schools can
find different, but equivalent, examples from those in the framework which demonstrate
their use of data at the lower levels. If in doubt, refer back to Bloom’s
taxonomy which describes the underlying principles of each level.
Q: I am at level zero. Is that a disaster?
A: No. Improve describes how well data is used to support business processes, not
how good the school is at the process itself. For example, many schools have
excellent attendance making sophisticated data techniques unnecessary.
If the school finds that it scores a low level in an area which is a priority for
development, then this would suggest some work on data strategies in that area would
be beneficial.
Q: Can the site collate all the audit responses from my colleagues on the leadership
team?
A: Sorry – no. Most schools gather this information from the senior
leadership team and assemble it in a table beforehand. Alternatively, consider
using other technology such as electronic voting pads to capture the data.
